Devilled Eggs
So you may have thought I might give you something with chocolate for this month’s recipe, but instead I decided to stay with our egg theme instead and bring you something simple yet classic and easy to make for entertaining – Devilled Eggs! Everyone’s got their own special spin on this family classic, so here are a few suggestions to liven up those hard-boiled treats!
Braised Red Cabbage with Apples
I love this simple yet tasty recipe and made it just the other day. It is the perfect combination of sweet and tangy and is ideal comfort food for these chilly winter months.
I had a hard time deciding on a recipe for this month but in the end I decided to go with something that is not only simple and seasonal, but also something that reminds me of my Aquarius father, who dearly loved his food and wine and would have loved this recipe! I know Valentine’s Day is coming up and you were probably expecting something chocolaty, but as we had something sweet last month, I thought we should go savory this time!
Sponge Toffee or Honeycomb Candy
My sister and I grew up eating Cadbury’s chocolate, and one of her absolute favorites was the “Crunchie” bar – delicious honeycomb toffee covered in rich milk chocolate. So when an old friend of mine sent me this recipe just recently, it was a perfect birthday treat for my sister and this month’s bulletin.
Sweet Potatoes
Steak & Kidney Pie
Now, I am not a particular fan of red meat these days, in fact, I rarely (!) eat it, but in keeping with our theme and to honor my late father’s love of roast beef, I decided to go with a traditional steak & kidney pie. As a child, I can remember good old Fray Bentos’ canned Steak & Kidney pies, and they are still making them today! You can even buy them online from one of the many specialty food websites!
This is hopefully a more appetizing recipe!
Salmon Burgers
So even though Leo is the lion, and therefore a carnivore that traditionally likes his meat, I am switching my recipe up this month and in keeping with our “healthy heart” theme, bringing you a recipe for a lovely summer burger made with one of our oil rich fish instead of ground meat.
